During the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, the Stalin monument was torn down and was cut into pieces. People wanted to bring home a part of the fallen leader. While reading James George Frazer’s controversial book, The Golden Bough I found a comparable description, a ritual tearing apart of a leader.

He must meet this last fate, as, in consequence of his great exactions. When we come to this understanding, and decide that he should be killed, first we cut off his legs and arms at the joints, and lastly, we cut off his head.
