We worked together under the umbrella of DemoLab, an art & education initiative, based on equal participation of students, teachers, and artists, that followed the pedagogical principles of French reformist pedagogue Célestin Freinet.
Our group chose the topic of an imagined institution, which we called Motivation Center. This center is an open space that anyone can visit for inspiration, studying, or just having a rest and recharging. We developed the idea through democratic debates during the school year. Each member of our group undertook a field where they felt comfortable, which was close to their interest, from beekeeping to LGBTQ activism. They organized a program, presentation, or activity in line with these themes through which they could show the experience and effectiveness of the chosen motivational topic. We advertised our programs for the rest of the school so anyone could join to get some motivation from our group. We finalized the concept in the form of a risograph printed zine in a weeklong summer camp.
